Daily Sports: Marquee MLB Matchup On Saturday

It’s a marquee baseball matchup on Fox that sets the tone for Saturday’s daily sports agenda. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the hottest team in MLB, the new betting-line favorite to win the World Series, and they’ll be hosting the Boston Red Sox in a 4 PM ET start. The Red Sox have slipped percentage points behind Tampa Bay in the AL East.

Fox will technically have three games as part of its 4 PM ET coverage. I can’t imagine the Tigers-Mets game will get anywhere beyond the local area. The Oakland-Baltimore game might get a little more play, with both teams being right in the thick of the wild-card chase. The A’s are still holding on to the second wild-card, while also being on Texas’ heels in the AL West.

And speaking of Texas, the Rangers will be on the South Side of Chicago tonight for a 7 PM ET game against the White Sox. MLB Network will carry this big rivalry game. Where is the rivalry you ask? It’s in the political arena, between the last two presidents. George W. Bush used to own the Rangers and Barack Obama is a passionate White Sox fan.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series goes to prime-time, and on ABC no less. The Irwin Tools Night Race runs at 7:30 PM ET from Bristol, TN. TheSportsNotebook took a look at this race, and the overall playoff picture, as there are just three more races left between now and the Chase For the Cup.

Lest we forget football, there’s a lot of NFL preseason action going today. The NFL Network kicks it off at 4:30 PM ET with a game between Buffalo and Washington, a rematch of the 1991 Super Bowl and my personal favorite team of all time, the ’91 Redskins.

CBS takes over in prime-time with a Rams-Broncos game from Denver at 8 PM ET. The NFL Network will have “whiparound coverage” of this and eight other night games on the docket.
