A World Series–indeed, an entire postseason that has been marked by tense pitching battles–had a finish on Wednesday night that for baseball fans was anticlimactic, but for the city of Boston was one long night of letting off steam, tension and ultimately celebrating its third championship in ten years. The Boston Red Sox used three-run outbursts in both the third and fourth innings to easily dispatch the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in Game 6 and win the 2013 World Series.
NFL Week 8 was pretty chalk, as evidenced by the fact that the elimination pool I’m in so nobody get knocked out for the first time all season. There were no big battles, no landscape-changing moments. So why not just start with the basics, and that’s the consensus three best quarterbacks in the NFL. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning dug themselves holes before turning on the gas, and Aaron Rodgers shone in prime-time.
If Games 3 & 4 of the battle between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals were filled with decisions, nuance and room for scrutiny and second-guessing then 2013 World Series Game 5 was one that was simply about the battle.
