Now it’s time to toss out the numbers, toss the betting implications and just get down to business of asking, straight up, who’s going to make the playoffs and win the championship. Or at least, who TheSportsNotebook thinks will do so, something that does not often (in fact rarely) comports to reality.
The NBA season opens up on Tuesday night. TheSportsNotebook’s preseason NBA commentary has previewed all six divisions and measured each team against their Over/Under win totals. In this post, we’ll focus on the betting odds to win the championship and see what numbers might make sense.
There are four races to go in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and four drivers who have a realistic championship. Jimmie Johnson has moved into the lead after last week in Talladega, with Matt Kenseth four points back. And in a spirit of generosity, TheSportsNotebook is including Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick among those with a shot. Both drivers are 26 points out, and I’m willing to give them one more week to see if they can make a significant dent in that number.
