It’s a marquee baseball matchup on Fox that sets the tone for Saturday’s daily sports agenda. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the hottest team in MLB, the new betting-line favorite to win the World Series, and they’ll be hosting the Boston Red Sox in a 4 PM ET start. The Red Sox have slipped percentage points behind Tampa Bay in the AL East.
The AFC South isn’t going to be at the top of anyone’s list as the best division in the NFL, and it might have a hard time even making the list based on who’s most interesting. The general perception is that two of the division’s four teams—Tennessee and Jacksonville—can be ruled out of the world of competitive football before the season even starts.
There was never any real chance for the Jacksonville Jaguars to be any good in 2012. When running back Maurice Jones-Drew went down for the count in Week 7, the season turned into an unmitigated disaster at 2-14. If nothing else, 2013 has to be a little better doesn’t it? Since TheSportsNotebook’s MLB coverage in September will be devoted to legitimate playoff races, the Braves are going to mostly fall off the radar, save the jousts for the #1 seed in the National League. But we can’t let this summer pass by without celebrating this team’s achievement, looking at their heroes and what they overcame.
If you were hoping for some increased drama in a dry National League playoff race, then this past week was a disappointment. The Arizona Diamondbacks visited the Cincinnati Reds with a chance to tighten up the wild-card picture. The four-game series on the banks of the Ohio River ended with three wins for the Reds and the increasing certainty that we already know the five teams that will be involved in postseason play.
The four-game series between the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals continues on Friday. MLB Network carries the Braves-Cards for the second straight night and the 8 PM ET game is the highlight of the daily sports agenda.
There are worse problems that the Houston Texans could be facing besides the challenge of pushing past the second round of the AFC playoffs. It was as recently as this time two years ago that we were wondering if the franchise would ever make the postseason at a
Would it be a bad pun to say the Indianapolis Colts had a lot of Luck in the 2012 NFL season? Yeah, it most certainly would, but it would also be accurate.
The NL Central race is the daily sports focus on the MLB Network today, starting with matinee action in Cincinnati and concluding with a big prime-time game in St. Louis.
