Daily Sports: Sunday TV Is Still About Day-Night Baseball

We’re not far from the day when daily sports on Sunday means a tripleheader of NFL football, but for now, the prime focus is still a day-night doubleheader in baseball, with TBS and ESPN on the call. So it is again today.

TBS will be in Philadelphia, where the Dodgers will play the Phillies. The collapse of the Phils means this is a long way from this rivalry’s glory days of either 1977-78, or 2008-09, years in which the two franchises met in consecutive National League Championship Series. The Dodgers owned the 70s, the Phils the ‘00s, but today is all about Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez and Dodger Blue.

Then it’s time for the sport’s most historic rivalry in prime time on ESPN when the Yankees and Red Sox conclude a three-game series from the Fens. Game time is 8 PM ET, and C.C. Sabathia is on the mound for the Yanks. The big fella simply has to dominate down the stretch if New York is going to make an improbable playoff push.

There is one NFL game on the preseason agenda tonight, and it’s Colts-Giants (7 PM ET, Fox) from MetLife Stadium, and there’s also NASCAR Sprint Cup Series action from Michigan at 1 PM ET on ESPN.
