Daily Sports: Fox In Fenway On Saturday

If it’s Saturday in the summer that means Fox Sports is somewhere with baseball coverage, and that somewhere usually represents the highlight in the daily sports menu. Today, that somewhere is Fenway Park for the middle game of the Yankees-Red Sox series. It’s a good pitching matchup, with New York’s Hiroki Kuroda against Boston’s John Lackey, as the Yanks have no room for error and the Red Sox are trying to keep hold of the AL East.

MLB Network picks up the torch at 7 PM ET. There’s two games listed. If we’re e lucky, most of the country will get the Royals-Tigers from Detroit, the one game involving two playoff contenders. Although I wouldn’t rule out the network giving in to Dodger hype, and showing their game in Philadelphia, even though the Phillies are well in the rearview mirror of the postseason push.

As the buildup to baseball, there are movies on the MLB Network as well. Starting at 1 PM ET, watch Kevin Costner in For Love Of The Game, and then at 4 PM it’s Eight Men Out. The Costner movie, where he portrays an aging Detroit pitcher going for a perfect game in Yankee Stadium, fits well on a day where both the Yanks and Tigers are part of the TV slate.

The NFL Network will have a preseason extravaganza today, with a tripleheader. Dallas-Arizona kicks it off at 4:30 PM ET, with Jacksonville-NY Jets following, and then the night ending with Denver-Seattle. The last game would clearly be the most intriguing to passionate NFL fans, with the Broncos and Seahawks each being credible Super Bowl picks.

Here at TheSportsNotebook we’ve pounding college football coverage and NFL analysis for the last couple weeks, and more will be forthcoming, as we build to the August 29 opener for college, and the September 5 kickoff to the NFL.
