The Morning Line Archives: May 28-June 3

 THE WEEK AHEAD: MAY 21-27

We’re back to basics this week at TheSportsNotebook after spending last week doing early All-Star ballots and team overviews in baseball, in addition to daily playoff coverage in the NHL and NBA. We’ll still have the latter going each day this week—as well as possible series previews if we get matchups set in the Stanley Cup Finals and the NBA’s conference finals in time for play to start over the weekend (Editor’s Note: See below for links). And each day, from Monday through Saturday, there will be a divisional report from MLB with a focus on one key story within each division and a brief check-in on everyone’s current form.

In addition to our NHL-NBA-MLB core coverage, we’ll preview the NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Charlotte that runs on Sunday. And our weekly special feature will look back at the year 1966 in sports. Why ’66? Because there’s been an unlikely reawakening of its echoes during this baseball season and could easily extend into other sports.

Finally, TheSportsNotebook’s Historical Museum is always up and ready to be checked out, with articles on which city had the best sports run in a given year (this week a piece was added on New Jersey’s year in 2003, when the Devils won the Stanley Cup and the Nets made the Finals), from determining what the rules are for being a sports fan. Please check it out and come on back each day for daily analysis, commentary and historical perspective.
