The 12 Greatest Years of the Washington Redskins
In the long history of the Washington Redskins, the most successful era was led by Joe Gibbs. From 1981-92, Gibbs led the Redskins to four Super Bowls. He won three of them—each time with a different quarterback.
Gibbs inherited a struggling team and built it at the line of scrimmage. While the Redskins had some great skill position players—Joe Theismann won an MVP award, John Riggins became an iconic running back and Art Monk was a Hall of Fame receiver—they all revolved around a powerful offensive line known as The Hogs. Washington imposed its will, controlled games, and adapted multiple times over Gibbs’ tenure.
