If I Had A Dime In Vegas…
The Notebook continues its Saturday morning feature of what I'd do if I went to Vegas with a thousand bucks in my pocket to bet for the entire football season. The first two weeks have been rough, and I'm already down to $853.50. Maybe I should do the responsible thing and switch to blackjack. I am narrowing the focus this week, and only playing three games, none of them marquee matchups. Here's who I'd step in on..
THE HOPE
“…the house always wins. Play long enough, you never change the stakes, the house takes you. Unless, when that perfect hand comes along, you bet big, and then you take the house.”
–-Danny Ocean, Oceans Eleven
$50: Indiana (-7) North Texas: I know IU has lost to Ball State and Darius Willis is out, but come on. North Texas is perhaps the worst team in the Sun Belt and if any Big Ten team can't beat them by double-digits, they should drop down in class.
$40: Auburn/Florida Atlantic (Over 57): Love Auburn's offense and figure they can cover 50 of this themselves. Hate Auburn's defense and figure FAU can at least pick up the rest.
$10: Minnesota (+155) Detroit: Take the Vikings on the moneyline, forgo the (+3) and take the home dog to win straight up at 1.55 to 1 odds.
THE REALITY
"We're the only winners. The players don't stand a chance. And their cash flows from the tables to our boxes…This is the end result of all the bright lights and the comped trips, of all the champagne and free hotel suites, and all the broads and all the booze. It's all been arranged just for us to get your money. That's the truth about Las Vegas."
–Ace Rothstein, Las Vegas bookmaker
