Daily Sports: It’s The Pirates Again On Wednesday

The Pittsburgh Pirates have gotten more TV coverage in the last three weeks than in the entire last twenty years combined. With justification of course, since is the first time the Buccos have been relevant since 1992, but it still seems strange to be regularly noting that a Pittsburgh baseball game is the highlight of TV’s daily sports options.

Yet that’s the case again tonight, as ESPN carries the middle game of the Pirates-Cardinals series from Busch Stadium. This is the seventh time these teams have played over the past couple weeks and they’ve all gotten some kind of national TV attention.

The sport the Steel City really lives for is football, and if you want to watch replay of the Steelers-Giants preseason game from last week, the NFL Network will oblige you this afternoon at 1 PM ET. Immediately following is the replay of Cardinals-Packers. If you’re an NFL junkie above all else, checking out the Steelers, Giants and Packers isn’t a bad way to entertain yourself. And I think the Cards could be a surprise in that rugged NFC West.

Matinee baseball from the desert is also on tap, as the Orioles and Diamondbacks play a getaway game in Phoenix. MLB Network is on the call at 3:30 PM ET.

TheSportsNotebook focused in on college football coverage yesterday, with previews of the Big Ten & Pac-12. Today it’s time for some NFL analysis, and since we’ve got the cities of Pittsburgh and Baltimore on the baseball TV schedule today, maybe it’s appropriate that we hone in on the AFC North today, as the Steelers try and dethrone the Ravens.
